WWI M17 named german medical helmet

    Hello Gents

Here's a WWI M17 german medical helmet for your pleasure. It's a size 64, maker ET. Batch nbr R/657 visible in dome. it is named to a certain HEBER. Below the name, there seems to be another name... "Brand"??, but I first need to carefully remove a post-war paper tag (collectorstag?).

It comes with its original brown chinstrap and steel linerband. One padding has a small repair, but nothing disturbing. String looks original too.

The red cross is neatly hand-painted on the front. Note the cracking in the red paint, a feature I really like to see

Also interesting is the fact that it has traces of storage. You can see scratches, also on the red cross, of another helmet that once was resting on it. If it only could talk...
I'm willing to say that, with my limited knowlegde, this is one of the few originals around today!

Now, is the green paint original WW1 or has it been re-issued by the ReichsWehr or (early) WH? I suppose, if indeed "transitional", it should have at least had another type chinstrap, right?
I ask this, mainly because of the extra layer of green paint that was applied, and not factory done IMO. It looks like the same, first layer of paint which is visible in the dome. It has been overpainted outside and inside just above the linerband (linerband included!) you can see traces of paint on the linerpads.

Over to you guys, please share your thoughts

    Cheers

    Jan

Two names appeared after removing the postwar paper tag...

                'HEBER' and 'Brand'?

Also note the slightly different texture of the paint before and after the linerband.
                Transitional afterall??

If this helmet saw indeed use during WWI....it could be well by one of these brave medics.

WW I helmets are not my favourite but this is a very rare great medic-helmet.
                          Congrats.
