    Is this liner original?

I have a 35 pattern DD snow cammo that someone faked. Rather than pass it along for fakers to take advantage, I took it apart and stripped the paint. I always assumed the liner was a good one but in looking at the numbers on the side it reads:
"66n.A/59" 59 wouldn't happen to be the year would it? Is it German or a later Norwegian perhaps?

If you're wondering about the "fushia" backdrop that's my wife -- I forced her to hold the liner out in our ice storm destroyed back yard. She was not amused.

        Hello
The linner appears to be a good one.
59 refers to the size in metric sizing.
Are you sure the helmet was a bad one ?
        Best Regards

Thanks -- yeah it was a good shell but repro decals and postwar paint. It came off very easily with acetone. No cool paint underneath however.

Hard to tell from the pics with the bad lighting, but I do see a couple things that would indicate an original liner. Yes, 66 is the helmet shell size in cm, and the 59 is the leather liner head size. If the whitewash was original, it may have come off easy with acetone, as it was made to be removed with minimal effort in the spring.

I doubt if the helmet finish was real. It had a smooth finish, the story being that a vet went to a show saw helmets with smooth finishes and tried to sand it down. My friend had it for some years and then I got it in a big grouping. I took it to a small militaria show in Kansas city and most turned their nose up at it. I sent a picture to Marcus Bell of helmets.com (before I found the forum here) and he said the decals were 70s repros and so it was only a postwar mockup at best. The decals came off like water which has never happened before to me on original decals (I only strip a helmet if somebody has postwar painted it and usually the original baked on paint will be fine including the decals) There was no wartine paint that I could tell under the white. However, I still have an original shell in nice shape with no dents or rust, three original pins and hopefully an original liner so I'l probably sell the parts sometime on e-stand. Maybe when the bad weather clears I'll take better pictures of the liner.

              Thanks

Not the best pictures... but from what I see I like it.

                Cheers,

                Kurt
