Not as daft at seems. A quantity of SS decals with the runes facing the wrong way were actually produced - by an Austrian manufacturer who printed them the wrong way round by mistake. There is photographic evidence of such decals being worn.

Few examples of these "mirror" runes exist according to several reference books and big collectors. There is an example in Kelly Hicks' vol2. The story is these were mistakes? I find it hard to believe it would be on a M-42. Other examples were on M-16 transitionals. Seriously, this looks like the picture was taken with the negative backwards

A reversed pic sounds very plausible, as the decal is on the wrong side of the helmet.

Hello!

No reversed pics! Absolut correct made pics. Mirrored runes on the left side of a M 42 shell!!! Made them myself about 2 1/2 years ago (it was my helmet for a time)!!!!! It was only the rusty shell with a linerband in it. Sold as a found in the ground of russia.

I also had more than some doubt about it (Perry and Stephen I also think it´s a repro one!), because the dealer were it comes from is not a very good guy (perhaps you know him: Derafrikaheld). Kick this one out of my collection.

At the same time there were 2 or 3 others on Manions! Never see such ones later on in auctions or on the market.

Stephen! Do you know the name of the firm which had produce the fake decals?

So the dealer said!

On my (bad) pics the shell looks better than it was! Rust all over and in the shell.
The color of this helmet was authentic dark green (no problems with it, absolut ok and original). Perhaps they fit the fake decal later on this shell to make it more unique.

Maybe the photo was originaly like this, cause the SS decal is supose to be on the right side.
