That's ok! We all make mistakes and learn. The point is to have fun and help each other out. You got a name we can call you?

      Ok - a few observations:

The eagles on the parade helmets are all fine. These odd looking decals never are consistently the same as you would find on combat helmets. The decals were produced for commercial sale and use on light weight helmets produced by private companies. There are a lot of variations to these decals, and some do appear to be used on children's helmets too since they were obtained commercially. -C

        Dear All,

I hope you still remember this thread. I visited the guy and took better pics. Here are the photos. Called me blind, but I don't see any traces of an added paint job...

        Best regards,

        Albert

Hello Albert , why added paint ? it's just a piece of another saws that has been added .It's well made but not placed as it should be on a normal decal .
With a magnifying glass , you might see interesting things !
BTW I don't think it's a problem when it has been applied (torn decal) but in hands it should be easier !

Ok, I see now, thanks . In hand it looks consistant but of course the location of the swaz is off to the right. Knowing where it came from one can exclude recent manipulation.

                  Hi Albert,
Glad you can see the displacement of the swastika. Here is my poor attempt to highlight it:

Well, I saw that it sat more to the right than it should but I couldn't see any traces of manipulation. It's hard to explain but if you look at the eagle the whole thing is consistant. Could it be that the swaz toe off during the process of application and the guy applying it glued it on too far to the right or even used another one?

This lid really needs no verbal icing as it came directly from the vets family and is not for sale. Neither the family of the original owner, nor the current owner would have ever done anything to the helment. I am just trying to satisfy my own curiosity.

This Last picture shows the remains of the original swastika and where it has been scraped off, and also highlights the difference in thickness of the arms of the replacement.

I do see it. It looks just fine to my eyes. I have one of the same in the ET pattern. Too me it looks like honest wear and tear that has caused the arms of the swas to distort slightly! However, I would add that if you look closely, the toning on the swas in comparison to the Eagle looks slightly off.

After looking at the angle drawings that SMP did, I see what he is seeing. I also strongly think the Swas is not as toned as the overall eagle!

It has an "off white" appearance in comparison to the eagle portion. It is much easier to see in the backed off picture of the decal.
