There was alot of helmets that got melted down in Norway after the war.. A walking distance from where I live, there was a German garrison with 3000 germans.. pretty big camp, my uncle told me that after the war they gathered up thons of gear/helmets etc in piles and melted all the helmets. Some friends of his and him sneaked into the place and stole seweral helmets!
I (of course!) asked if he still had em, but nooooo.. they where thrown away long ago for some reason... not that it matters much but still, if he had them, they would be striped of their linars which they did to all the helmets before they were melted down..

anybody else thinking of a timemachine?

By the way Ron, that second lid of yours it killer hehe veery nice!

Speaking of seeing a helmet with the same batch number. The M-42 SS on Bill Sheas site has the same batch number as mine that I listed on the helmet forum a month or so ago.

that's a rare varient snow camo with fixed bales and radio antenna, It's quite obvious It's been hit with a shotgun blast which explains the lack of liner...c'mon guys

                      Hi,
A friend of mine who used to live in the countryside in France told me, when he was a teenager his big pleasure was to shoot at german helmets with his father's hunting rifle. Lids were collected for free from farms or found directly in the countryside.
When I asked him, how many helmets did you shoot at ?
he answered me : I don't remember, but a big amount. they had differents insignia on the side, some were painted with several color and the majority of them had a piece of leather inside.
Yes I know my friend, it's called a liner....
                      ciao!

                        How many german helmets

                        Hi

I bought this m42 helmet 15 years ago on a flea market in Nürnberg.
Someone has done it to a moneybank.

Wow, I've never seen one turned into a bank before! That is really cool, but I think I would rather have the helmet in original condition. BTW, is that a ventless lid?

Also, the M42 colander above is really nice too.

This one turned out to be a good helmet, but a "fake SS".................
