    Camo helmets

    Hi,
I thought I would share a little variety of camo helmets for your viewing. The pea camo looking one is a SS . You can see the runes under where the paint seperated over the decal. I'm curious on the use of the camo on the the other SS helmet. The lighter grey blotches are were added. Thanks for any ideas.

In my opinion I would highly suspect the SS camo's, the para and the one on the top right. Do you have detailed pics of the others?

Also did the one on the top left come from Manions?

        Camo Helmets

None of these came from manions or shows. All but one was a purchase right from the Vet or his family out of their home.I posted them to view and I' m curious of the use of the camo on the grey SS helmet. I'm not asking for their originality because I don't think a picture on the internet will do justice for a helmet in the hand.I know where they came from and I am more than comfortable with their originality. Thanks for your opinion anyway.

          SS Camos

SS camos are quite rare. SS units typically had camo covers and therefore didn’t have a need to camouflage. That’s why you find so much skeptism surrounding them. I have to say I have never seen camo patterns like the ones you have. Quite vivid after so many years.

A few guys around here know much more than me about SS helmets. I'm sure they have some good comments. Got any close ups?

Correct, all original helmets come from the vet or vets family at some point. Often though many who make the statement although they're not the one's that actually purchased the helmet directly. Although this may or may not be true in Mr. Miller's case, I don't know the actual history on these helmets. My opinions are on the way they look as a experianced helmet collector..

              camos

              Hello,
The luft camo on the top left and the two tropical camos in the center look fine to me.
The SS camo I am skeptical about based on the decal itself, I'm quite sure that is a poor reproduction SS decal.
I am also somewhat skeptical about the camo paint on the paratrooper helmet. It looks too new to me.

Maybe you could post better pictures of the camo para helmet?
              Anyway, these are my thoughts.

In my opinion pictures do not do justice to a lot of helmets.
A lot of times colors and details are not represented very well becuase of many reasons.
John is right better photos are needed.

I have seen some vibrant colors on original camo helmets. Posted below is a helmet I saw from a distance that I initially thought was bad because of the vibrant colors displayed.
When i got it in my hands the paint was hard as rock, been on there forever and displayed the type of wear I have seen on numerous helmets.
This photo does not do the helmet justice and from it alone I am sure there will be skeptics, several other fairly advanced collectors have seen this helmet and like it.

True, but the bad can still be noticable. Even from just a pic.
And yes some need a hands on inspection to be sure..
                    it goes both ways..

                        Camo Helmets

                        Matt,
That is a nice helmet that you have there. I have a similar M42 that almost matches the colors in the Luft splinter winter camo jacket.I agree on camo helmets that still hold vibrant colors. I believe that how the helmet was stored and the condition it was in at capture makes alot of difference to how it looks now, also the type of paint used. I would show some closer shots but my camera doesn't zoom in very good. I posted these helmets to show different camo's and thats all. Like yours these all have been thoroughly scrutinized by several collectors and dealers in this area. I really don't think any more discussion is needed on this thread or maybe its been discussed before . I really didn't check into the history on camo helmets in this section. Thanks again, Mitch
