    SS Helmet

I don't own this and don't plan to, I'm curious what people think about it?

I've seen this one as well. I don't know enough about SS decals and admittably this decal looks good to me, but like I said don't know much about them

However, I dismissed this helmet as a rebuild with a very good fake decal. It's just too mint.

I'd have to ask an expert like Darryl about the decal, but the paint looks wrong. The tone just isn't right. It has more of a "cinematic" look than a real helmet.

A decent post-war rebuild but by no means an original period example.

        Peter, Richard and Ty,
I also believe this helmet to be a recently made-up example...right down to the decal. The decal is exactly the same (from what I can see) as the M42 helmet I got from J. Angolia. I promptly sent the helmet back but was short changed $300 on the refund (he's definitely not the man I thought he was).

Anyway, the Angolia M42 had a similar finish...it was almost like a fine sandpaper/emery cloth. And it also originally came without a chinstrap. I kept pictures of it along with close-ups of the decal but I cannot post them here. The giveaway on the decal was that is seemed to be made of a tinfoil-like substance and was noticeably thicker than a real one.

I posted this because nothing seems too obvious about this one but I know something isn't right about it. The paint looks ok to me but the decal just doesn't look 60 years old. It just looks too new to be an original to me. Personally I have never seen a "mint" or "unissued" ORIGINAL SS helmet.

            Darryl is correct..
I think Barry Smith owns a unissued WSS helmet...

              Angolia!!!

Typical! He offered me an Army General's visor cap....just something that he "didn't need"...Ofcourse it was a reproduction
