I don't like the buckle. However, there is an original buckle design that is close. This a commonly reproduced maker mark, with one difference. The difference being that the common repos don't have the date sideways like yours does. Yours is stamped like a known original. I have seen this exact strap before (e-bay), with a gauranty of originality. I just don't like the buckle design.

Repro in my opinion. I have repro chinstrap with this exact same buckle. It's even rusted in the same way. Chemicals may have been used to speed-up the rusting/aging process.

Manion's was selling these, years ago, as original. There were several different makers and dates available. I bought a whole bunch at the time.

I'm now convinced they are the first in a series of "high end" reproductions. IMO the same company is still making them with improved buckles.

                        Best regards.

I recall seeing what I thought was that EXACT strap on e-bay about a year ago. I remember it very well because of the extensive rust on the buckle. After doing more research, I see that the entire strap is a repo, and the buckles have been chemically aged to fool collectors. Many of these same buckles were made.
A definate FAKE, retail value $20 US for a filler piece.

                              Manions

I saw a box of hundreds of these at a militaria show in Dallas in 1993 that manions was selling as original, I still have some of them strong chemical smell to this day Identical buckle and about a dozen different makers tah being one of them!
