Have any other members of this forum been in the abandoned German tunnel (Ho2) in St Peter's Valley, Jersey?
I explored them as a 15 yr old in 1975. There were still alot of German helmets in there that had been diposed of by the British army in 1945
I brought 14 home with me. They were in bad condition but after knocking off the loose rust, you could still see traces of decals and paint. Four of them had chicken wire and baling wires attached - quite a large percentage.
I again went into these tunnels in 1999. All the helmets had gone but even after nearly 60 years, there were pieces of leather liners in the puddles. I think a leaking fuel oil barrel had preserved them. One piece even had a clear Luftwaffe unit marking on it.
I only have one of these helmets left - an M35, traces of an army eagle decal remaining. It has no money value but I would never sell it.
