Helmet Named to "Wahl" Compliments of Greg Muller

Recently I checked my mail here on Wehrmacht-Awards. In it I found a message from fellow helmet collector and forum member Mr. Greg Muller.

The message quickly pointed out to me that there was a helmet on eBay with the last name "Wahl" in it. I found the helmet not holding my breath too much that it would be an SS size 66. Well, it did turn out to be an original, but not SS or size 66. Nevertheless, I placed a high bid on it to insure possession and wound up with it at a fairly reasonable price, considering it needs a liner and chin strap. I'll be doing some honest restoration on this one, but, I doubt it will EVER be on the open market again in my life-time. So, you guys don't have to worry about finding a helmet that you bought as original and find later it's a "parts" helmet with the name "Wahl" in it. Make a note.

Thanks again for the heads up Greg. Look forward to meeting you at a show or something like that as soon as possible.

Since I am unable to post pics here on W-A.com, I've linked the GDC thread. Here it is.

Glad to be of help Stephan . I'd love to get to the max or another show over there one day and meet up, however i'm a bit far away down here in Australia. but who knows maybe one day i'll get there, i reckon it'd ( the max ) be a cracker of a show.

PS: If your going to restore a liner to your new helmet i think i know where you can get it done and nobody would ever be able to tell the difference.

Very nice of Greg to point this helmet out to Herr Wahl. Very cool really. If anyone sees one with the name Wessel in it (my mother's family name), please let me know.

I've gotta walk a fine line between being happy with the restoration myself, but also not making it so good that it "fools" collectors, OR, even family I may hand it down to. I don't want my great grandchildren mistaking this helmet for my grandfather. It might only lend to create confusion.
