    Garage sale helmets

I picked up two helmets today at a garage sale for a whopping total of $50 USD. Both are M40's both have liners although I cannot say with certainty that the liners have not been messed with at some time. I love German helmets but I stick with US militaria mostly. So opinions of these helmets. I am sure they were worth $50 in any case.

Here is the first one as purchased. It's a dark brush painted green with a slightly textured finish. The paint extends all the way to the interior.

Interior shot. The chinstrap has no markings at all, nor does the leather on the liner. The drawstring appears to be made of the same string as US leggings had.

Here is the split pin. The outside of them is rust with no paint and the insides look loose.

Here is the second helmet. It has an odd grayish color that looks to be almost completely worn away. The seller said he remembered the liner having the "cotter pins" but they rusted away.

Backside of the same helmet, showing the odd paint.

Ghost of a decal on the left side. Looks to have been very skillfully removed.

The liner is very dry and flaking apart. Is this blood damage? The entire liner is stained in this manner.

Close up of the liner damage. The liner itself is a size56 and is dated 1941.

Yeah, nice finds. Even if not 'cherry condition', TR combat helmets of any type are not so easy to come across cheap like that.
