Dicked with helmet

As I browse through ebay.con I look at helmets for sale and try to work out what's wrong with 'em.

Here's an example:

Re-issue M35 Heer, with cammo net(says it's genuine).


Now here's what I think...

The liner has been replaced because the mis-shapen liner band has been bent while accessing the rivets to remove/insert it.
The net is there so you can't get a clear look at the rivets.
Chin-strap looks repro
Apart from that, the paint finish seems original.

Do you think my assessment is correct? Anything I missed?

While we're at it... what do you think of this one? I can't see anything wrong but am suspicious at the high paint condition. Having said that the liner matches the paint finish for wear and the liner doesn't seem dicked with. Opinions?

Hard to tell without better snaps. It appears to be a replacement zinc liner.

Although rivets have a tendency to take on a slightly different colour from the shell due to variation in metal the rivet on this M35 seems to vary too much.

I would not read too much into a liner slightly mis-shaped within the shell as at times the normal wear and tear of combat and abuse account for this. As long as the rivets and washers have not been messed with and there is a nice dust build up behind the liner it is no problem. You find this happening to the softer metals used in an original M35 mostly. But if this was ever the only problem with a future purchase it is not always a sign of having been tampered with.

I have attached 2 snaps, one you can see the leather liner slightly away from the alluminium liner, this is on a Kriegsmarine M35 DD camo and the other liner fits very neatly with no spacing between leather liner and metal liner. This one is on an M35 DD Police.

Good points there. Thanks for keeping me straight.

One of the problems we have then is securing a watertight return guarantee should any evidence of tampering show up when the piece actually arrives for inspection.

I just hate the hassle of having to parcel it all up again and getting to the post office and being stiffed on the shipping costs, etc,etc,etc
