    German helmet turned into a collander. There are some more crude examples. I remember that in flea markets in Italy I used to find German helmets with the vents sealed that were adapted post war as food containers for farm animals.

      If my aging memory recalls correctly in the last episode of the classic documentary "World At War" there is a brief bit of film showing a factory turning German helmets into collanders.

          Prototype vented tropical helmet issued to night flak crews around luftwaffe airbases..Has the rare candleholder top lid ..with landing candle installed and lit used to line up runway center line for night operation landings..Was very sucessful..BUT expensive to personnel and gold wound badges...Billbert
