    ss helmet

This is my first download so if it works I consider this a victory
    in itself !!!!
I bought this SS helmet that was in a friend's deceased father's
    collection.
The father had some of his collection in WWII publications.
This is the name in helmet.
The helmet and signature are in good shape
I was concerned that under magnification the paint of the
signature is above the one and only scratch in the helmet.
I presumed the signature was added on much later.
But then i saw the scratch goes under the liner and is
exactly where the overlap of metal is on the liner.
It must have scratched the surface when the liner was originally
    placed in. Is that right???
Could I then assume the liner was never taken out since there is no
    second scratch?
do you think its original....he would take it back if its not.
    I know..... when you assume......
Does anyone knw what the name says.
I"ll try to send a photo of outside of helmet with decal.
    Thanks, John

      Hi John,

Nice photos but unfortunately the helmet is a high-end reproduction. Sorry for the bad news, especially since you are new to the forum.

The shell is real but the SS decal is a 1980s fake. The painted name is also a fabrication...in my humble opinion.

I agree it's bad.....And yet another nice M42 with a fake decal .....IF bought cheap enough though, I'd try to restore it back to an original decal-less M42 (providing everything else is correct, of course).....Would be a super nice, correct lid then.....Bodes

I guess when it looks too good to be
              true.............
              I paid 675.
I'm sure he would take it back with no problem.
The shell is nice and liner is very clean, maybe too clean?
I know he's going to ask me so can I ask you,
how do you know its a 1980's repro decal.
              Thanks in advance, John

Can u post a pic of the liner?? The helmet itself looks good to me. Except u paid too much . As bodes says, try to restore it to it's original state (if the helmet is correct) or try to get a refund (I would go for this considering the price). Cheers, Nick
