Funny paint on a M42

Who has ever seen this kind of paint on a M42 ? Looks like under the paint is some LW blue paint. Allso the nieten are looking loose but if I look on the inside it looks like they belong to the helmet
Would love to have some opinions

Deck Paint

It could be deck paint. Some KM helmets used on ships were often painted over this way.

My opinion is that I have none. These winterized lids are IMO the hardest to authenticate.

It's a "ckl" shell, the chinnstraps is un-marked.
