    Is this camo for real?

    Hi Guys,

Can anyone give me an opinion on this alleged M40 Q64 camo (despite these less-than-perfect pix)?

    THX in advance!

Just going by those pics I think its a nice untouched posibly two tone camo, however I wouldn't buy it with out seeing much closer clearer pics which may show something different again.

Hey,maybe you must take some outside pictures, because the flash don't give a real effect of the camo paint.Too shiny.

This one is offered by a UK dealer no? IMO that one looks fine to me as far as my knowledge goes. I do know that the price is rather low too.

          Cheers

ahhh the minefield of cammos...not worth going there for me.
Authenticity in cammos is no more than matter of opinion.

From those pictures I'm suspicious of the camo, I in hands inspection would confirm.

Just to add to the above, I have collected for around 15 years, 5 of that in the U.K and Europe (while on O.E) and in the early days I was burned like most people on the odd badge etc, was always lucky with the helmets though and learnt over time. HOWEVER i got really burned on Ebay last year with A' Normandy Camo' with a superb BS story behind it even got pics from the "supposed son' of his Dad etc, they were real clever his Dad was Not A ranger or Airborne etc, just a driver for an officer, very clever indeed.

The helmet was bid up to $US1600.00 by a fellow member here, (no names mentioned) but once he saw the paypal address of the'known faker' he stopped the transaction and left pos feedback and did not return my e-mail re inquiring about the helmet (thanks mate!)

Anyway the helmet arrived and it looked superb with wear etc and all the right stuff (It was just a no decal M35 that the faker re-sprayed very well)

the helmet passed muster to everyone who saw it, but the BAD news came when I posted it here as it had been discussed (I now know its bad) BUT if it fooled an experianced collector here it would fool anyone, even the guy at German Helmets .com liked it!

What concerns me is the faker is still out there, and he is bloody clever, how can he be stopped, i know what I would like to do about him (you can guess)

You can have the helmet in question if you do it, as he resides in your neck of the woods, however I will need proof (Mafia) style of the job being completed.

Looks like artificial rust stains over the camo paint.

                              Took my chances...

Thanks for all the comments guys! I took the risk and bloody bought it anyway (had to decide before reading the last 9 comments though... )

As Caleb states, the authenticity of non-pedigree camos seems to be a matter of opinion... It's quite possible that I hit a mine, but I think that a few things do speak in favor of this lid:

                              * The seller claims that it's authentic and offers a 7-day return policy.

                              * The dent at the back where the paint is gone - looks quite like another dented "warhorse" that I have (which I belive is 100% original, of course) - I may be wrong, but this one passes the "could-I-have-done-this-myself-test": It would IMO be difficult to apply paint around the damaged area and make it look like the damage was done afterwards. It's hard to "outthink" fakers, but a dent like this lowers the value - scratches and similar artificial aging is one thing, but this dent was caused by a severe blow... ?

                              * The liner looks fine to me...

                              Please comment!
