    good paint or bad?

    Hello,
I picked up this shell for a few bucks...I know because some #$#$% drilled holes through it, but it doesn't matter to me. Is it repained?

      Hello,
I know this helmet shell, has no value for most of you here, but it is the low stuff I can still afford to buy, all I'd like to find out is if the paint is good or did some knob repaint it....(if it is repainted, then I can try and strip it to see what is under it...
      thank you
      Lubos

That is not a pre '45 German color.
        Most likely a Norwegian repaint.
They took the helmets after the war and refinished them for their own use. They didn't want to look like Nazis, so they repainted them.
Unfortunately for these types of helmets, they stripped them before doing it, so it's unlikely there will be any original paint under there.
The Czech black painted ones were done right over the existing paint, so sometimes when the paint is removed, you end up with a german helmet.
I don't think that will be the case with this one but it is worth a try. You're not going to hurt the value any.

I agree with Marc on the Norwegian repaint. With black helmet shells I've yet to find original paint under the black though. I'm about 15 and 0 with those.

          All the best,

                Hungarian, not Norwegian

                Hi,

IMO, this is probably an original German M35 shell that has been converted and used by the Hungarian army. What do the stamps tell us? The color is that of Hungarian WW2 helmets, and it has holes to fit either a German M31 liner or a Hungarian one.

                Cheers!
