    M16 Helmet - something a little different

Here is something you don't see much.

A complete WWI helmet with a full liner and chinstrap. This is the best example I have ever seen of one with mailing labels and stamps. It's hard to believe these guys just put a few stamps on, and threw it in the mail. Pretty good deal for .36 cents...

I do believe another collector got another WWI helmet from the same US soldier.

                    Very cool helmet Ty.

Two things are absolutely amazing about this whole thing:

1- the helmet made it to where it was sent without anyone stealing it.

2- it appears that there is not a scratch on it from the mailing. We now box things in tripilcate and hope it gets to its destination unscathed. Sometimes it does and...

                      Ty, great helmet!

I have an Austrian M-16 with the home address of the soldier painted in the rear of the skirt. I do not see any evidence of postage though.

That's a great looking M16 Ty, & nice to see it's complete. Now this is probably a silly question but whats with the US postage stamps ? If it was being sent from France, would they not have used french stamps, or did the US Army establish their own postal service in France ? Maybe the Army shipped them back to the US & then they were posted from there.

                          Thanks
                          Mike

3- That everything stayed together in the many years since it was sent home....Why didn't somebody remove the postage information?....Didn't kids play war in the 20's-30's?......Must've spent alot of time in somebody's closet...... Bodes
