As far as I know nothing in the photo's came back , probably got used as target practice like their previous owners ! The only thing that I know of that was bought back was a Gew98 dated 1917 which is now in my collection ( not sure whether this was picked up in Africa or Italy ). My brother in laws father was a keen deer stalker & used the Gew for many years after the war as his main hunting rifle.
As for them looking as though they have a bit of time on there hands, I think they're just a typical bunch of Kiwi's making the most of a precious bit of time out. There are many other amazing photo's from his album & some of which I'll post in the future.
