    Chinstrap display preference

I was wondering why people still display the chinstrap of there helmets on the visor. I have seen many helmets with a broken chinstrap because they displayed it like. Beside it looks cool, why people continue to do so when it's stressed the leather over a period of time.

P.S.: I do not know who owns this helmet. This is just an example.

    .

As long as the strap is not tight then if its kept in the right conditions I dont see a problem .

I've purchased helmets where the chin strap has been over the brim for many years. In that case I just leave it alone because the leather has taken shape there. I prefer to just tuck it inside the hemet otherwise......

        Why not?

        Hi,

Although it would seem a bit "un-Preussian" to display the chinstrap arranged over the bring, there's a lot of photo evidence telling us this pratice wasn't uncommon amongs the "Landser".

I'm not sure I like this arrangement personally, but if carefully done it effectively keeps the strap in place thereby reducing the risk of damage and unnessecary wear when the helmet is handled.

I believe this was the regulation position for the chinstrap when the helmet is not in wear.

I like chinstraps to hang. I'll go to the point to gently reshape the strap if it's been across the bill for an extended period of time.

In my opinion, loosely placed over the visor is the best and safest place for a chinstrap.
The number one causes for a broken strap is leaving it dangle freely, trying to unbuckle one that has stiffened, collector after collector placing it over the visor then the next one taking it down, then the next one placing it looped through the bales then the next putting it back over the visor and so on. The more you fiddle with it the worse it is on the strap.
