Hi,
I have a couple of these, for the reason that I couln't afford the real thing. They cost me $10 and $75. Ten bucks 8 years ago, 75 now. The Czech "home guard" after the war used them. However, if they are repainted black, they belong to Volunteer Firemen. The last time I was there my friend showed me a bunch of them at the fire station. If you seach my posts you'll find them. I'll try to look myself....

black helmets
To my knowledge WWII german manufactured helmets (M35/M40/M42) were reworked for the czec fire depts by being stripped of original paint and having postwar czec liners installed. Some had insignia attached to the front using two small drilled holes. Many of these black M42 helmets are found with maker marks like: vL, bvl, bvL, qvl, and qvL, which I suspect were made by a czec manufacturer(s) during the war. One of these in my collection simply had the M31 liner removed, shell painted black, and liner re-installed. I removed the black paint to find wartime rough texture green-gray paint and some soldier art. It also seems possible that some of these black helmets never had original paint, but were found at the factorys uncompleted after the war.

Here is a sand coloured helmet. My friend told me it was a unissued WWII "africa" recovered from a warehouse in Czech. Members here ID it as a post war Czech repainted for the Egyptian Army. I know you mentioned Black helmets only, but...
