    DD winter camo helmet

What do you think ? Sorry no pics of eagle yet...

A model 40 with 41 dated chinstrap should have ONE decal. Before spending large quantities of money, learn the basics.

A chinstrap does not determine the date of a helmet. This was a part that wore out, broke and was replaced as required. Personally, I like the helmet and decal. The camo paint...??? I'll leave that to the camo-experts.

It's possible for a 40-41 era M40 Luftwaffe to be a double decal but I dont think this one is a legitimate DD(or camo). This one was recently discussed before, it had what looked to be a double Luft adler application.

Agreed, but I dont like the looks of the camo, or decal either, and knowing how rare DD 40's are, thisleads me to believe it was a good SD helmet that had camo and a decal added.

Not sure what you guys don't like about the tri-colour shield. However, I will go back to my SS helmets...

            Cheers,

I do like the helmet and tri color decal, but i think the camo was added later. The signs of wear doesnt look that good to me.

I personaly think that the white splotches inside are at least older than the whitewash outside. If you look close to the tri color shield in the area were the white meets the red you will also see two white splotches which look different in color and consistence than the other whitwash color. They are identical to the color points inside. Maybe this helmet was lying around during renovation working at some time. And later after a collector or faker picked it up he tryed to cover these splotsches with a whitewash to make it more profitable.

Just my opinion and i would like to see the other side.

I don't think the paint splattered in the inside leather would look like that if someone wore that helmet through a harsh winter. The liner looks like it was painted then left alone..... While the outside looks like it was heavily worn.... This on top of being an ultrarare M40 DD...... hmmmmm.....

I would certainly expect some good docmentation before spending any high value on this one...

The white wash does not look like any other white wash I have seen before.

I was going to post on this one also. It's been up a few times on ebay and pulled over the last month.

Definately not a one looker...either way. That's what I find interesting about it.

I dumped the picture of the adler a while back. I really like the national shield and the adler IS a one looker..but

                    It's a double decal M40.

It's camo doesn't show a patina to go along with the underlying felgrau, national shield or adler.

I don't like the liner, looks repo and contrived.

I really don't like the paint spatter, I agree with ZB on that. (Good spot ZB on the national shield)

What's facinating is IF it is indeed an honest DD M40 lid..

Why on earth would ANYONE mess with it ???

                    Regardless.

There are multiple areas of another shade of paint (almost peach colored) on top of the helmet along with on the decal. Also above the eagle in two lines.

I don't understand the fake liner talk. The signature is old and original to the liner, which would lead me to believe it is real.

This one looks like one you need to have in your hand, and then you'd know for sure what the deal was.

I'm not sure what the issue w/ the liner is all about. In fact, if this IS a real DD M40, that is exactly the type of liner you would probably expect to see. A second pattern reinforced alum liner like the later M35 DDs. It would be interesting to see the date stamp on it...

I like the helmet, decals and liner look fine to me. Only about the white wash I have my doubts.
