I'm curious to know where this comes from.

It's obviously not the standard repro decal that can be purchased on the internet from the repro dealers....... wet, dry or otherwise. How is it applied ?

I would assume that making any decal, especially one with what ever content and construction this has, has to require tremendous expertise in the art of decal production.

If they're not available in the marketplace, are they made by some evil decal genious that just produces them for his own counterfit helmets ?

This thing will fool alot of people.

      Marc,

You are correct. I believe this decal is not for the general public's consumption...it cannot be purchased. It is made by the faker (or ring of fakers) to carry out their devious and underhanded trade.

It certainly will fool a lot of collectors out there. That is why it is so necessary to learn what real ones look like and to know how they were constructed. It's too bad that we have to get this "deep" into the subject but it's the only way to thwart these scumbags.

        Danke Darryl!

Dear Darryl, what would the striving helmet collector do without your Einstein-like analysis of these issues? What a wretched and cunning fake here with the crushed glass to rip the soul of the yearning collector. I must buy the Hicks book. I looked at it in Berlin and admired all your marvelous regalia. Viel Sammlerglueck. Please send me a note to my address as I have some images to share with you sometime.

I don't want to dispute anybody's opinion but, at first glance, it looks good to me either.
This is an helmet that I would love to handle before placing a big red "X" on it.

          Gerd,
Where is it coming from? What about the price? What about the dimensions of the shield?

... but the official offer is still at Euro 280 ...
              ... and has a nice "0" feed back ...
... anyway for 280 I would have a go. the components alone would have a much higher value ...

Anyway pocher decal on a NS shell should not necessary trigger major concerns

                Paolo,

The trick is to get a "real" Pocher decal...which this one is not.

While I'll never have the disposable income to own a SS helmet I think it's a oldtimer newtimer thing darryl.

I think to the degree into which a piece needs to be analyzed for being authentic is the most facinating part of collecting helmets.

If it didn't have to be done I would find collecting very boring.

                    But then again, I'm strange
