    Officer visor hat Question

    Hi
I´m new in collecting German WWII hats and purchased my first one today. I am greatful for all the info I can get about the hat I bought and on the following links it can be viewed:

    http://hem.bredband.net/lindbloom/Tyskhatt1.jpg

    http://hem.bredband.net/lindbloom/Tyskhatt2.jpg

It might be hard to read due to the light but the text on the dimond says:
    Mutzen Fabrik, Berlin, 1940

Is it a original hat or a copy(replica)?
What kind of hat is it,which kind of officer used it and so forth?
    How mutch is it worth?
    Thanks

Complete reproduction. Infantry officer visors are not hard to find, with either bullion insignia or metal ones. Thanks for posting it and be glad you did!

Nothing on this cap is genuine. The insignia is fake, and that sweatshield! Terrible. Please return this for a refund as soon as you can so you don't lose your hard earned money.

Carolus, always show items you are thinking about purchasing to the guys on this site first - it will save you thousands of dollars and even more heartache!

In this connection, I suggest the following measures: a.) invest in Wilkins' book. You can buy it from him direct, I guess, via this site; b.) look at the Shea website, even though there are those here who have caveats on this score; c.) look at the Stezelberger website; d.) look at the Whammond-Collector's Guild website. You can also look at the Weitze and Winkler, too, but when the caps there diverge into the rare and exotic, one has to exert some measure of caution. However, the Hamburger caps of a garden variety tend to be ok. The same can be said for our Swedish colleague v. Lukacs. The cap above in this thread is an over-the-top fake which bears little resemblence to caps of the era for a host of reasons. Also, look here at colleague Kane's postings from his wonderful collection. He has posted some lovely, pleasing images, but one cannot became a mad hatter from images alone. Hatting is the continuation of looking, feeling and smelling by other means, to paraphrase Clausewitz. This dictum means: you have to examine real pieces in hand, and do so a lot....!!

Hi, everyone's comments are quite on target. Lot's of giveaways on this cap. But, the most obvious is the moisture shield: I, personally, in all the many military caps I have ever seen, regardless of service (SS included), whether maker marked, or generic (i.e. a slogan of some sort, but no name), I have NEVER found a single original example with a moisture shield bearing the image of the national eagle with swastika (and on this cap, a cruddy rendition, at that). Various bird designs, yes - but no swastika.

Paramilitary and other organization caps (e.g. TeNo), are a different story - but on military caps, in my experience, it was simply not done.
