About 3 years ago, my father and I were at the Badger Military show in Madison digging through a so-called "junk box" at one of the hundreds of tables, and my dad found this pin. My dad knew it was from the German state of Mecklenburg by the bull's head with the tongue sticking out (must be a long story behind that ), and he snatched it up as the Bandow's came from northern Mecklenburger. I pointed out the stylized swastika, and my dad did not think all that mush of it at the time, except that maybe it was a tinnie of some sort.
Well, I checked out a book from a local library on WWII German uniforms and insignia, and low and behold, there it was listed as a RAD tradition pin for a unit from Mecklenburg for use on the side cap.
Can anyone tell me more about these, and is it worth more than the $10 my dad paid for it?
Later,
Karl Bandow
