This weekend was our largest state show. I was there Friday during dealer set-up and all day Sat. as usual.
Not much showed up Friday from dealers except a nice M42SD Heer in nice shape, but it was expensive and sat there untill late Saturday. The usual repo and junker helmets were there. Nothing more in the way of German helmets.
By Saturday morning I had figured it was going to be the usual Raleigh show in terms of German helmets. It was however good to get together with good friends that I don't usually see untill the Max or Raleigh. That is real important to me regardless wether I find something at the show or not. Good friends talking militaria and past experiances.
Well about mid-day Sat. my friend Ed Hicks approached me in the back saying that he just got a nice camo and that it was a walk-in just minutes before.
I went and took a look and low and behold as soon as I picked it up I got the "cherry buzz" that we all get when he pick up a killer piece we have'nt seen before. I quickly secured the helmet and shortly thereafter went outside and let my good friend John take a photo of it. This helmet got me really pumped and was frantic untill I had secured it..
I've been going to Raleigh for many years and this is the best fresh camo I've seen walk through the door. Those of you may remember the last camo that walked in this show fresh from the woodwork was a tropical camo(that Cody now owns). Although that one was very nice and fresh this one beats that in my opinion.
This M35 has a very thick brushed on "tiger stripe" pattern in green, red/brown and dark tan. Although fully obscured, both decals I'm certain are under the thick camo going from the configuration of the helmet. The camo is so thick the vents look like a M40. This one I feel was done individually by the grenadier himself. This one has never been cleaned and is fresh to the collecting world. I'll try and take better pictures later in the week.
