WA Is being mentioned in Ebay Auctions!!

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...533114820&rd=1

Just found this auction on Ebay.

Named M42 wire covered “half-basket”. This helmet was obtained from Thomas Kibler-author of “Combat Helmets of the Third Reich”. He stated that it was an indirect vet buy, guaranteed this as the real deal and out of hundreds of helmets--was one of only four original wire helmets he has owned. This helmet has been discussed at wehrmacht-awards”dot”com. This forum is an excellent source of information on Third Reich memorabilia. The helmet is in decent condition in light of its intended use and age. It is stamped ET64, and 2482. The helmet is also soldier named to a soldier named “Horstkotte”. The chinstrap is complete, and lightly stamped on the end (can’t make out the maker). Liner fingers are fragile-some cracked. The only detraction to this original and rare helmet is that someone attempted to remove the paint used to cover up the Heer decal. The decal is there, but in poor shape. Efforts to camouflage often resulted in decals being over painted or scratched off.

Maybe they should mention the thread and the verdict as to the authenticity of the helmet...

I agree, I am pretty new at this, but I don't like the wire

Yes, was it good or bad...just saying it was discussed doesn't mean anything.

I suppose I need to chime in. That helmet is a real period chicken-wire. I would have kept it, but the liberation of the Heer decal was really bad.

Since chicken-wire helmets have increased in their controversy, I find it interesting that this exact helmet, which received praise when I posted it over a year ago on this forum, now receives questioned comments of authenticity.

I recently picked up a real chicken-wire lid and posted pictures of the four real ones I've owned since 1974. There too, no bashing was done on any of them. It appears that because of the rampid chicken-wire fakes, real ones become even more suspect.

                Hi Guys,

Not Wishing to be arguementative Rob but that set is actually pretty reasonable. Whilst the helmets are still obtainable if you search, a type D green wool mask with E type carbon mic is the holy grale. It's got the locking plate too!

I have only ever handled a couple of these and have not seen one for sale for a very long time! Add to that a pair of the universally un-popular 3 series goggles and you have a set that would take you years (and cost s**t loads) to assemble individually.

Be prepared cos I reacon it's going to go further yet. Indeed if I was flusher at the moment (and not banned from ebay) I would probably have a go.

I know what you're saying though; It's amazing the way prices have escalated in recent years.

BTW. nice helmet Tlckibler, you are correct about people being scared of wired helmets but you know how it is, a couple of threads get written and all of a sudden everyone feels qualified to give an opinion . Good luck with your sales mate.

                Yours, Guy.

I think many of us would appreciate it if you didn't use BLACK font for your messages. It's extremely difficult to read.
