Medic on SS STEEL

Thoughts on this helmet? I had it in hand (for a few weeks) and it did not give me a comforting feeling. Someone dropped $7k on it. What do you guys think?

I prefer this one . Its one of those types of helmets you need to have done your homework on and are personally happy with it . Rob

Quickly,looking, that one might have a chance. The one I posted, immediately gave me pause. More so once I had it in hand

funny thing is the owner tried selling it himself for 2k less on a sister forum.
Sat there unsold for months then posted on SS steel for 7k and sold.

I guess its more about who you are in the hobby sometimes.. But not all forums are heavily travelled.

It's funny some guys are dumping their beloved medic helmets probably a smart thing to do before none are believed to be good. Its getting close to this point already.

Been bought by someone that did not do or wanted to do his homework. 7k is absurd for any medic.
Although there can often be a big difference between advertised price and actual price. A lot of times items are just traded away between dealers.

Some helmets you look at and they talk to you. For $7,000, it shouldn't just talk, it should scream. Personally, this one doesnt do anything for me.

Not really. Under that rationale, we should dump all SS helmets and all camos, since each is highly faked as well. Some are one lookers and the rest are not. That is why one-lookers will always carry a premium.

Description

This exceptional Heer medic camo helmet has probably the best lineage in the collecting community for camos. The consignor reports that he obtained it from the noted collector, author and dealer KenN, who had obtained it from Randy G some years in the past. The shell is an NS64 M42, marked at the side. Under the heavily applied white paint camo finish is the NS medium texture schiefergrau paint. The liner and strap are in fine condition and original unaltered to the helmet. The helmet always had this cover with it; the cover being field made but showing excellent signs of wear and compatibility with the overall condition of the helmet. In short, it’s a match. The helmet itself is an absolutely stunning example with all of the camo paint intact. It has those nice to see areas of age and crazing, And the red cross conforms to examples of originals in terms of size and style of application. This is probably the finest medic helmet I have handled in many years, and the condition would be nearly impossible to upgrade. The bonus of having a cover that was likely with it since the beginning is also a very desirable aspect indeed. My COA accompanies the sale of this fine helmet.

There are field made covers that are real but would be trashed on this forum. I've gotten some nice ones over the decades on direct vet buys but would never post them because not being textbook what's the point?

The never ending Medic Helmet. How does one explain the crazing ? The paint and application ? A couple other things that I know you see.

Personally, I don't like any of them. I have seen many period photos of soldiers with medical supply container on their belt with no medical helmet or armband.

However, this helmet has a lot going for it. I think it's good.
