Looking at the period photo, you can see the corner of another grave to the right of his. Perhaps checking to see if there is a veteran's organization for this unit might lead to more info on this story?

Thanks for the kind comments guys. I forgot to ask, but does anyone know what a soldiers of a Nachrichten Kompanie in a Flak Regiment would do? Would he have been a radio specialist, or perhaps been using long range detecting devices?

Robb, what FJ helmet do you mean? That tan one that is on the famous photo of an FJ in Italy, and that is fixed with a piece of wire? That is indeed one of the most amasing helmets out there.

Marc, there is indeed another grave next to Gunther's, it is that of Willy Elze, killed a couple of days before. I havent looked into him but he is probbaly from the same unit. After trying for years to research German units from southern France, I have abandonned trying to find much worthwhile information from German veteran organisations about obscure units such as this Flak Rgt 59.

I don't know why y'all call them terrorists they were freedom fighters that were fighting to free their country from the Nazi scum that enslaved them since 1940.I call them heroes not terrorist.
