Thanks for the positive comments.
Here are a few more pics for reference. I have asked some of the owners if I may use their pics on this thread. Thanks Mathieu and David.
If you have burlap pics or helmets please add them to the thread. It would be interesting to see some others.

It’s a great looking helmet cover combination and the cover looks very well made and fitted and painted for that matter. With the rank of oberleutnant the wearer was not a sniper. Maybe an artillery forward observer would be more likely or just a line junior officer trying to take some little measure to increase his already slim odds to survive a little longer.

I really like that it is double named, one on the liner and the other on the inside skirt. I also like the effect that humidity caused some water to be retained on the cover and the cover thus caused oxidation on the shell. You can see that more clearly on the inside of the skirt. Fascinating helmet! When you go home

For what's it worth, in 1995 while metal detecting in Normandy (Land of the Dead, 2nd armored area of a huge fight) I dug such a helmet. It was upside down about eight inches below ground. When the helmet was pulled out a piece of burlap was attached to it. The burlap was in better condition than the helmet.
In that same exact area, all buried alongside a curved road, broken ashtrays from Paris bars, perfume bottles, vehicle gauges and melted metal. The strangest item was the remains of a German tunic pocket and inside of it were gold filled teeth. Observed a sliver of something shiny that looked like silver, reached down into the hole with my fingers to pull it out. What came out was a long silver wire, it appeared I unraveled a bullion insignia of some sort!
Surmised that after the battle, the German debris was pushed off the road into a clear spot outside of a farmers field.
