May I please get opinions on this "grey" rough or textured 42. It's painted throughout and has 2 numbers in the dome in paint I can't quite make out. Has what appears to be a partial decal?? Opinions would be helpful. Thanks.

Is that color what some would call "Battleship Grey"? I have seen a few painted that shade of grey but they were not textured as I recall. They were always said to be KM for use on ships.Comment

Not a roller buckle but that is what's left of a decal. Looks more silver than gold to me but there is a tiny bit of gold still there I think.Comment

Looks like typical EF slate grey used on M40 and 42's has the typical heavily flaked HJ&K decal..
Some paints really lighten up with oxidation I think that is the case here.Comment

Yes, it's an HJ K decal. It's slate Grey Heer. Not KM. Looks fine.Comment

The helmet looks to have been re-painted inside and out and a liner put into it. I see also there are numbers painted in the dome of the helmet.Comment

That is correct. Exactly why we were thinking it could have been a KM shipboard because a lot of them were reissued this way. Obviously, so were some Heer helmets. It was the grey factor that was interesting.Comment
