Tito Agosti (Morrovalle, 1889 - Rome, 1946) was a super-decorated cavalry officer of the Royal Army (Knight of the Military Order of Savoy, 3 silver medals and a bronze medal for military valour, knight of the Order of the Crown of Italy, two promotions to the superior rank for exceptional merits of war). He took part in the conquest of Libya, in the first and second world wars and also in the war in Ethiopia. After the armistice of September 8, 1943 he joined the Italian Social Republic, holding the position of commander of the 2nd Grenadier Division "Littorio". Captured in 1945, he committed suicide the following year to avoid the war crimes trial and, as he wrote in his last letter, rather than being judged by a jury that he considered partial and "treacherous":
