Italian Medal for the Unification of Italy

The Type II version of the Commemorative Medal for the Unification of Italy was instituted on January 19, 1922 by Royal Decree No. 1129 and awarded to all those who had received the commemorative medal for the Italian-Austrian War. This war represented the accomplishment of Italian Unification, which began during the Italian Risorgimento. Decree No. 1362 of October 19, 1922 subsequently allowed coinage and sale of the medal to the National Association of Mothers and Widows of War Fallen, later renamed the National Association of Families of War Fallen and Missing Soldiers.

A nice original medal, unmarked variation.
Unfortunately with no ribbon. It won't be hard to find a replacement, however let me suggest you to buy complete decorations. This one, as well as others like the Victory medal, the italian austrian campaign or the war merit cross are rather common, and very often the replacement ribbon cost may be equal to the value of the medal itself!
Here are some from my collection. This one is maker marked....

This is maker marked as the previous one, but has also the inscription of the "National Association of Mothers and Widows of War Fallen" and the original envelope.

Same as above but in the rather hard to find case of issue.
The case cost an extra, so most of the veterans did not buy it!

          The award certificate, deluxe edition
The standard issue was in the form of a stamp to be glued to the italian austrian commemorative medal certificate.

Last one, that is actually a different decoration created in 1940.
Similar to the 1848-1918 medal, the second date turned to 1922 to include the Fiume expedition and the march on Rome.

              Very, very nice!

All of those I have posted were part of a substantial group from a returning 5th Army veteran.

There are also a number of loose ribbons in the group, so perhaps some matches there.

              Best regards,
