A bit like our Grenadier Guards in Britain...you were not able to join at one time unless you were 6ft /1.90mtr in height !!...

The height was not the only requirement! They were selected (and nowadays as well) from the Carabinieri Corps, that was considered an élite force on itself. They also had to know how to ride, since this supposed to be a mounted unit.
