Afternoon gents ..good fortune this morning at my local Militaria fair !..found a item ive been looking out for a while now ..a 1874/79 pistol ammo Bandolier !..i have the M1891 rifle version so this will make a nice addition...

Nice, but this was for the Beretta '34: the three pockets contained three carton box with the cartridges.
The first model for the Mod. 1874 and Bodeo Mod. 1889 had instead six little pockets for six cartridges.

Hello Kanister thanks for your info...if then as you say that this is for the Barretta 34.. & not the Bodeo mod 89 !? ...then what is the designation for this bandolier then ??...i ask because in the book 'Mussolinis soldiers '.. it is described as the Mod 74/89 !?...thanks Semovente..

I don't know the exact designation for this bandolier, but this is surely for the Beretta '34 holster, the one grey-green for the enlisted men.
Beside the pocket for the ammunition boxes you can note the cut in wich insert the movable strap on the rear of the holster.
Mod. 1889 and 1874 holsters had instead little straps.

Please consider that of these bandolier there were at leat three different models:
- the one for the revolver (mod. 1874 and mod 1889) with the little "alveoli" for six cartridges;
- the one for the Beretta '34 with the pockets for the ammunition boxes:
- the one for the Mod. 91 rifle, with the pockets for the "lastrine".

Well it seems from what i can make out in reference ..that the Bandolier was still classed as the M1889 !?...but the Barretta 34 is a later variant of the earlier Bodeo model ?!..the main difference being the compatments for the two types of ammo been different !?

The Beretta M '34 is the one you post and is a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, while the Mod. 1889 Bodeo and the M. 1874 were 6 shots 10,35mm revolver.
The holsters were very different.

Yes Kanister true ..they are two very different holsters ! ..also a great link you posted ... ... it shows very clearly the difference ......well its one more to keep a look out for i already have this pouch for the 1889 Bodeo revolver !

here is my contribution to your thread.
I like to classify Italian WWII Bandoleirs in this way:

Bandoleirs for short arms:

model 1874/89 for the holster of the M.1889 Bodeo-Glisenti revolver (used until consumption). It has 3 pockets, each with 6 places for a cartridge.
model 36 for the holster of the Beretta M.34 (officially replaced the previous one in 1936). It has 3 pockets each for an ammunition package and a cut in the leather, near the ring, for the passage of the holster attachment.

Bandoleirs for long arms:

model 1991/97 for Carcano 1891 rifle, or carabine. It has 2 pockets, each with 2 places (there were 3 different colors for them: grey-green, brown and black)

model 1927 for Carcano 1891/38 carabine. It has 2 pockets, each with 2 places and a supplemental ammo pouch for further 2 Carcano magazines instead of the ring for the pistol holster.
