I suppose (?) that due to he is in Cavalese (Trento)he was part of the 10 Legione Udine, 10 is probably the number inside the headgear insigna...

I see two crossed axes under the fascio, not 2 cannons...

...well at first it seems two axes ...., if it is on this way it means he is forestal ranger but ...the eagle is missing above the cannons/axes (?) and forestal ranger used to dress (as per regulation) the Cappello Alpino hat not the rigid beret, to me he is from Dicat.
            ciao

I had the same thoughts as you.

                    Well, not really.
Yours is the classic one for MVSN AA units.
On the period picture there are crossed axes under the fascio, not crossed cannons.

Oh well worth a try ......but i looked with a glass and yes they do look axe like but as Andrea said without the eagle for foresty militia...i did think militia labour corps badge has elements of the same design !...but just some thoughts !...cheers Semovente..

Yes, MVSN labour units during Ethiopian war had a similar badge (fascio+crossed axes + rope) on the pith helmet.
I only know the badge made of metal for troops pith helmet. I do not know if an officer variant in bullion existed.

..my 2 cents , but if you put it on black/withe and reduce this photo it seems to see axes instead of cannons...
