POMPEO MAGNO Regia Marina ship metal model - Please help identify

I was thinking about buying this pin and the seller claims this dates back to the 1940s. Does anybody have information on these pins? Are they actually from the war-era? What were the function of these pins?

I just don't want to get screwed over when purchasing this. Thanks!

Hello leproc... from what i know these pins were worn in WW2 on the sailors tunic.. above a ribbon bar of medals !..if the sailor had any awards that is....the pin depicted the ship that he was serving on at that time ...Semovente...

So this could've been worn during the war? The seller is from Italy and this was apparently in his family for awhile.

I've confirmed that the ship did serve during WW2...and later went on to serve the Italian Navy post-WW2.

These pins are usually expensive...and there aren't many references to Regia Marina badges / medals / pins in your average bookstore.

The Pompeo Magno light cruiser don't served in the postwar Italian navy, so this badge cant be postwar.
It had to be deliverd to France but it was not then, after a large rebuilt, it changed name and became S.Giorgio.

Oh! I meant that the ship itself wasn't destroyed, though the name was changed.

So...this does have a chance at being part of a war-era costume...or is it more of a tribute to a Regia Marina sailor?

Wow! That's gorgeous and thanks for finding a photo reference for this. Is it usually silver-colored? I'm wondering if my pin has been rusted due to age.
