    the last SS call ..

an interesting and rare leaflet found some months ago, is probably the last call searching for volunteers to join the Italian Legion... addressed to the teenagers of 15 & 16 years old ....

To the young people of classes 1928 and 1929
With the consent of your parents you too can have the coveted honor of belonging to the Italian SS Legion.
    Youth of Italy!
Remember! Your Fatherland is in danger! your home, your women can become easy prey to the enemy's barbaric. Follow the generous impulse of your heart, defend your honor.
Hasten to join the Italian SS Legion.
Economic treatment equal to that of the Germanic SS.
    Training takes place in Italy

Rene , The man who gave me this item says witn other papers not concerning the wartime period, and the bronze item is a genuine letter opener, positoned only to show the dimension of the leaflet ( nothing to do with it)
        Ciao

You are always the first my friend, what I like of this leaflet is the perfect period time italian language always mix with some poetic exclamation.( the translation lost is emphasis).taking in consideration that the most of teenagers were speaking in dialet (slang) at that time , so it seems they was looking for some elite boys, ...that is only my thinking obviouly...

                Hi,

in my opinion the explaination may be far more simple : all the "local referents" in the SS-Hauptamt were highly (too highly actually) educated "intellectuals" that had to translate and provide local texts for recruitment and ideological training.

All in all the content was usually "complex" and written in a "rigid" way.
Nothing like front newspapers for example...

This is why you can find even in late 1944 texts that seemed to come from outer space, despite the main target was the (most of the time uneducated) young volunteers.

The problem was the same for all the European volunteers (best example : the SS-Hauptamt newspaper "Aufbruch" and its content).

                See You

                Vince

On the same lines of recruitment as Andrea's fantastic S.S. document.. i have this set of four leaflets for ..as you can see the Decima mas...i take it that the same sort of 'basic ' appealing words are used to lure in the young volunteers to the cause..all patriotic stirring stuff etc no doubt !!
