Need help identify this piece of Italian insignia

    Hello,

I have been trying to identify one of the pieces of insignia shown in this photo. The one in question is the item with the red circle with 21 in the center. The red circle is on top of crossed rifles. A machine gun appears below and a crown above the circle. The reverse side is unmarked. It has two prongs on the reverse. Each prong is two pieces so when the insignia in position the two pieces of each prong flatten to hold it in place. Sorry I don't have a photo of the back right now. If more are needed I can provide.

I now know that it is Italian but any further information regarding this insignia would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Tim

Does anyone have information regarding the unit or battalion that this shoulder board belongs to or where I might find info? I've tried various web searches and have struck out.

      Thanks,
      Tim

I know I said shoulder board already, but may have jumped the gun. By the prongs description it's for the adrian helmet.

Yes, it's for the Adrian helmet and for the pre WW2 bustina cap. This kind of badge was used in the '20s - early '30s.
It should be not from infantry but from the military district Nr21 (because of the red color, that indicates military districts).

              It's a Regimental number:

              21st Infantry Regiment "Cremona"

                  Dennis,

That might be a vehicle transformer "Don't open the cover in the vehicle" plate.

                    Hello,

I agree with the last post. The plate came out of a vehicle. The plate was included in the grouping with the piece of Italian insignia I'm trying to learn about. Thank you for the translation of the plate by the way. I appreciate that also.

                    Regards,
                    Tim

No, it's not for the 21st Infantry Regiment Cremona but for the 21st "Distretto Militare" (Reggio Calabria). The red color indicates a Military District.

Thank you for the continued interest. Can you provide the general area of Italy where this district was located?

Can you provide any info on battles they might have been involved in during WWII? I'm not have much luck finding information.

                        Thank you for your help,
                        Tim

As I wrote in the previous post the 21st military district was located in Reggio Calabria. This was not an operative unit. A Military district was an administrative office that absolved many functions in a certain area of the country, the most important being organizing the conscription of recruits.
