and the 2nd image the Italian salt-pepper fatigue jacket...Kind of like a cross between the two with traits of an M40 jacket (belt)Last edited by NickG; 03-13-2017, 12:11 PM.

Yes similar and could be period replacements...So that could be an indicator of Italian origin but those are just plain buttons...I feel that the black buttons (of which 7 remain and attached with green thread matching the button hole reenforcements) are the original set up...
Lets look at the belt part more closely...Last edited by NickG; 03-13-2017, 03:44 PM.

The belt is strange and not really a military set up...It is a weak (civilian) design, with those buttons! (like an after-thought)
The tunic has a half belt (3 + 4) in the back which is incorporated into the design.
and 1 + 2 are two additional buttoned on pieces that allow the belt to become a full waist belt...Strange set up with these extension straps...
(and no loops to hold it in place...)
So is it a modification?
Maybe it was an old army fatigue set with the pants worn out and sleeve cuffs worn, the latter repaired and the pants sacrificed, cut up
to make pocket/pocket flaps and a full waist belt (with these extensions)? Like an after thought, not part of the original design!....
Certainly not typical for Italian military waist belts! (4 pieces and no loops!)Last edited by NickG; 03-13-2017, 04:50 PM.

Does anybody recognize it now?
Simple belt-less fatigue tunic, unmodified.. and later modified for combat role... (or post war civilian wear)Attached FilesLast edited by NickG; 03-13-2017, 05:37 PM.
