      Hello Semovente:
      Interesting neo-Roman looking eagle, depending
on size IMO more likely a building decoration since
the back has no feather details which a flag pole
top would have. I have several two sided Fascist
Italian standard eagles in my collection, and also
some Hollywood movie examples based on those
actually used by the Ancient Roman Army Legions.

Hello Semovente I also believe that (more or less) it was something like this, a Roman Empire style eagle for building of fascist era
          cheers

Thanks gents for your very interesting imput..yes Old flags wanted ..i think your point that the eagles rear is without detail makes it more likely to have come off a Fascist building something similar to Controbanda's pic..and it was as the old desert Rat said ..found in the ruins of some Italian building ..which he then bought back in his kit bag!..also as Paolorubens pointed out check out OFW link..Excellent ....cheers & thanks Semovente.

The French Empire also used this kind of eagle, although usually with the head turned to the opposite side

OFW , you are very welcome thumbs

Just considering options ... I am wondering why if is aluminum could be part of building ? most of pre war italian architecture was all about stones , maybe was a setting or something not directly related to the building .

                      my ... fantasy ... 2 cents

                        Hello Paolo:
Good point. Size is not stated, but likely it is
not very large, as brought back by a soldier.
Actual use speculation could be endless, but
nevertheless an interesting relic eagle IMO.

Iteresting point Paolo...yes i suppose thats also a possibility?!...however i dont know if it did come off the actual building..thats why iam asking what it is....the old vetern told my mate he found it in the ruins when he passed it on to him !...so it might be as you said off something else !!.. unfortunatly i cannot ask him myself now as he passed away some time ago...he was a Royal Artillery gunner on a Sextnant armoured vehical..he got caught up in Tobruk during the seige by the axis !...thats as much as i know.....Semovente

I spoke to my friend who was given the eagle by the old veteran..and he had no fresh info to shed on the subject !....but he dug this compass out for me that the old boy had also bought back !!...so i was suprised and very pleased as he told me that the ex Gunner had said that this was taken off an Italian POW in North Africa...cheers
