      Thanks, Alex.
Hopefully, I saved it from being cut up into "made from original material" items.

        Charles,

I wouldn't even repair the rip that it has....
.... that rip is part of its history.

Roll it up and fix it in the proper way on a backpack M39 and it will do great !!

Good and WWII but it's not an individual shelter: it lack of the central cut.
It's a collective shelter, not suitable for the back pack

My intention is to use it as a background for several items I've collected from the Italian campaign.

I agree with Kanister, this couldn't be used as poncho.

                  IMHO, it's good but post WWII.Approx '50s -'60s..Not a poncho but a collective shelter.

                    @Paolo:

Wow! I always thought that machine stiched eyelets were a 100% war-time feature of the italian shelter M29.
                    learned again something new!

Why do you say it's early postwar and not WW2?
                      Because of the different color?

Because the colors on the cloth do not match with these WWII for sure: PaoloM

                          Paolo,
Although I am not an expert (and will never claim to be), according to:

                          http://www.kamouflage.net/country/00244.php

there were at least 3 different styles and up to 6 different color variations used in the M29 camo during WW2. The one you presented is type 1, the one I brought to this thread matches type 2. I also own a shelter/poncho (has the neck hole) that is from the late 50's, but the coloration matches type 3. I also own a 1960's paratrooper jacket and the color on it is different from either of the shelters I have (much lighter and the brown is more toward a reddish color). Please let me know if my information is incorrect.
                          Thanks,
                          Charles

The type 3 pattern shelter I have matches this one in color:

Charles, not considering the faded specimen, I only know two original WWII
