    Looks like these artifacts from Italian prisoners (post September 1943 Armistice)...

      It sounds very strange to me that these particular badges were found in a former POW camp. The five pieces that are shown are a prewar "bustina" cap badge and four epaulettes for the dress uniform, also mostly used pre-WW2. I would have expected to see different kinds of badges in a POW camp. I'd like to see how the other thousands of badges that have been found look like.

        Interesting story. However, before theorising about mass graves and executions, it could be good to start by researching the one readable ID tag that was found. Italian ID tags usualy preserve very well, so I am surprised only one redable tag remains.

          ..and more , any metal arm shield was on Italian Army uniform after july 1940 due to were officially abolished ( starting from 1938 metal shields were progressly replaced by cloth shield)
