    Opinions on Italian Tropical Items

    Good evening Fratelli,

Once again I come to you for your expertise on a few Italian items I'd like to add to my collection.

My primary area of collecting for 37ish years has been Wehrmacht uniforms, but I am now in the last stages of rounding out my collection to include uniform items from most of the major countries involved in the war, hence the recent Thread on the Vaira and now these (also being Italian has a little to do with wanting a few pieces)

I tried finding detailed info on each of these on WAF and based on the Threads I feel pretty confident all are good, but, as with anything I know the fakes are getting better and better so please be brutally honest on them.

Thanks for looking and I look forward to your feedback.

    Ci sentiamo

    Bob

First up is this officer's M42 Tropical Cap. It is very faint, but below the "5" stamp is "42". Is this the year, or a designation for the model of the hat?

Next up is this officer's Sahariana.

I could find only one mark in it and it is in the back of the neck. It looks like a "48" with another character below it.

Please ignore the belt. It is German and on the tunic until I find the appropriate Italian one.

Pleat is open at the back. It appears closed because of the belt.

Here is the mark. It's is more discernible in person.

The cuffs appear to be lined with a different fabric than what the tunic is made of.

Last up is this cockade from a Pith Helmet. At this point I want to only focus on the cockade as I'm 99.9% confident the helmet itself is good.

The cockade measures 2 1/8" (5.39 cm) and does glow under a black light.

Thanks again for looking and for your feedback!

the tropical cap (troops model) have the correct ink stamp sometimes used by officers
(normally prefer the private cut tropical cap) the sahariana tunic is very nice (tailor made private cut)
the coccarda and cloth badge it's ok thanks for sharing!
                        cheers

"six italians, dressed in rather unusual diving suits and equipped with materials of laughably little cost have swung the military balance of power in the Mediterranean in favour of the Axis".

This is all complete with insignia reassembled incorrect.
The cap, have artillery insignia, with the flame from the wrong side, so it's a insigia from shoulder, the degree with three bars is the type used in AOI in 1935-36, and a cap of AS is unlikely to be present, and finally rank on sahariana, are wrong, they were never used this kind of rank in this piece of clothing, the sahariana had the shoulder straps with the insignia of the unit, with the rank.
The sahariana and the cap are original, but reassembled incorrectly.
                            Ciao, Luca

                              I agree with Luca!
Also the shoulder boards button looks French to me!
