            Thank you all.

            Some superb images and links.

Was there any special insignia worn by the Italian Saharina Companies please?

            Again, many thanks

            Keith

Only the plate EI (Esercito Italiano) and those in Tunisia had often a flag drawn on the bonnet for the air recognition, otherwise nothing, I have not seen any AS 42 with unit or division insigna... while it is common on those used in the Italian Army and Police in the post-war ...

I not sure if I understand the question: April 26th, 1942 it is formed the "Battaglione Arditi Camionettisti" in order to contrast the similar British commandos, which was effective from August 1, 1942.
It was decided to manufacture for these soldiers two veichles:

the Camionetta 42 (Spa - Viberti) that using the seme frame of the armored car AB41. The prototype is presented July 9, 1942 and is finally adopted December 1, 1942. There is much confusion on the data of total production, but should be somewhere between 80 and 120 "camionette"....

the Camionetta 43 (Spa - Viberti) that using the frame of the truck AS37, and were produced only about 20 copies, in 1943, and no one leave Italy

                    ciao Oriano

still a contribution to this nice vehicle ... a Sahariana AS42 of the X Reggimento Arditi Camionetta destroyed ... we are near Primosole Bridge (Catania, photo above) July 14, 1943 ........ British Para had occupied the bridge while on Catania riverbank Germans soldiers of the HG resisted ..... the Germansn ask to the commander of the X Arditi Major Marcianò to help them to recapture the bridge .... Major Marcianò reaches them at the head of six trucks AS42, and attacks and can take the bridge but the British reaction is violent and decisive: the Arditi lose 4 of 6 veichles... ...

instead this is (from the formidable archive Daniele Guglielmi) a Camionetta As42 hit near Rome by Sherman, then almost surely of the Barbarigo Batt. of X Mas that we have mentioned above
