Another photo from Atlantic Magazine 9-4-2011, showing an Italian Soldier captured in Libya. The caption reads in part 'Arrives in London January 2, 1942'.
Of interest is his still new uniform with Ike Style jacket, and unusual design collar stars. IAC.

Very strange the 'BD style' jacket, worn also by his comrade at his left. Never seen before. Maybe this clothing has been issued to these prisoners by the same British
at the first stages of captivity.PaoloM

Even though it looks like a US Battle Dress based on the dark color (chocolate), it is clearly a standard M36 British BD dyed dark brown for prisoner use.
The 2 closure hooks in the neck/throat area are clear clues. Also US types are open V neck style with exposed buttons...

This POW impression (same dark brown dyed jacket) I owned at one time but sold it to an Itaian collector a couple of years ago,
along with the above POW made Bustina with custom embroidery. It was reenforced on the inside with British biscuit ration box card board!
