Are the edelweiss of partisan production? They don't seems to be the standard GJ ones.

Yes!!! Those are the partisan copied edelweis insignia which lack the German stitch holes and center is uncolored...
made in 1 piece with no doubt prongs on the back! (as explained in post 54)!

My sahariana came with detached standard GJ edelweiss marked "F&B" ....which were also used (after capture).
The prior owner of my collarless sahariana did not know about this practice, so he sold those GJ edelweiss seperately...
and I had to get another replacement German made GJ set! Fortunately the red collar tabs were kept, so easy to restore!

That's a great tunic Lorenz! Thanks for making this thread even more interesting with another example!
So 2 white stripes on the collar means 2 winters in the mountains! Good info!

"six italians, dressed in rather unusual diving suits and equipped with materials of laughably little cost have swung the military balance of power in the Mediterranean in favour of the Axis".

Not identical uniforms..not Sahariana in style.... but Lorenz's partisan tunic could I guess be a captured GNR,
                      or Black Brigade militia uniform!

Yes Nick, very similar but not identical in fact, in the upper pockets and the back side I think, it is very close with the model of the republican Police that is different just in the sleeve ends.. No, the GNR "Ruggine" color is different, this IMO is the classic dark brown partisan color.... IMO the cut was the fashion of the time, for this they are very similar...

In 1943 in Rome, there were only a few radical chic boys, sons of the Fascist leaders who amused themselves by betraying the Italian army forces, with the acquiescence of the weak dictator Mussolini and the police, while our soldiers were fighting for life or death at El Alamein and the Don. No authentic communist partisan in Rome despite the post-war clowns. You must tell your vendor to clarify the origins of your safari jacket.
Super (plausible and courageous) post and super thread!! Thanks a lot to all for sharing photos, tunics and knowledge...

Lets bring this thread back to the top! I was in Italy last week and visited the
resistance museum in Ferrara which has a room dedicated to the Garibaldi (partisan) Brigade.
Unfortunately the glare did not help much with the quality of many images

A Garibaldi partisan uniform which is a German Bahnschutz blue wool with German pebbled buttons devoid of any insignia,
displayed along with communist Girabaldi partisan scarf and German map case + post war partisan commemorative medals...
