Telo mimetico. Genuine or Post war?

    Hello.

I have had this in my collection for years and I really don't know if it is period... It has a marking with a year but I can't read it. It has almost all the buttons and all of them are aluminium and three holes.

I would appreciate if anyone could put a light on. And if someone can put the pics in the right size... I don't know how to do it

    Regards.

    Francisco

      Thank you Paolo.

It hasn't the hole for the head. Is it a zeltbahn or a tent?

It is not a Zeltbahn , that is a German Shelter Quarter, an Italian shelter half is a Telo mimetico.... You wouldn't call a British Ground Sheet a Zeltbahn would you?, the term Zeltbahn is as much about the cut of the garment as much as which country it is from.
A Zeltbahn is cut differently to a Ground sheet and both are different to a Telo mimetico .

        Peace.

          Sorry Viktor.

I wanted to say if this is a piece a soldier could use as a poncho or is a tent, because there is no hole to put the head in...

Sorry about the confussion in the terms.

          Regards.

No problem, we learn this way.... I did.... so it works.

I believe if you were "mechanised" you had the Plain Telo mimetico issued, likely as more suitable garments to fill the weather proofing need swere issued.

It is not clear however, I have an what I think is an early Post war example, missing all its buttons.

            .

              IMHO the stamp reads "1963".
              I wouldn't call this "early"

                Genosse, I wouldn't/didn't call the "1963" "early".

My one (which has not been Imaged anywhere) has no dates, is of an early post war camouflage colour, pattern and has woven grommet holes, the buttons were once stitched on not pressed on and were Brown Plastic by the remains of them. ( however the skill to recognise all the minor changes of 1929 Camouflage by its colour and variants is a skill on par with Rocket Science with is hidden to morals)

There are examples of the Plain Variant in pre war Images, used as tent wall/roof panels, so it is a pattern that had grown hairs.
