Not at all, Paolo...now, you have to write to the Army Centro documentale (former Distretto militare) of his place of birth, in order to search for his files (at first, the foglio matricolare, where you can find a lot of the information you need and that is also a good starting point for further researches) . They normally need the first name, surname and year of birth. This search could be a little difficult because the files are periodically transmissed (according with the expiration of a timeline related to the year of birth) from the Army to the State Archive of the province. Here you have the link of the Defense Ministry. On the right column you have the email address of the various Centro documentale:
