Just thought I would add a few photos from a future book that I started collaborating on.

This one is the enlisted sahariana in a linen type material

This is the rear view of the enlisted sahariana. Notice 2 buttons on cuff, pleat in middle and button on rear of collar.

Here is the pre-40 officers sahariana (same model as the first photo I posted). This one has metal buttons painted khaki. Also, it is more of an olive color than khaki.

Excellent collection of uniforms. Thanks for sharing.

                    All

While looking at these latest examples and the Amici article James sent me (again thanks James), I picked up on another small bit that doesn't fit. The sarhariana Matt posted and both of my examples have the rear pleat sewn closed to the waist. Below the triangular reinforcing the pleat is open. None of the other examples posted here have the closed pleat.

                    Matt

Thanks for posting the close-ups of the sewning, button, stamps of your tunic. As I don't have any original colonial items, I can't offer any thoughts on whether the stitching, etc. is period. It does match the generally weak stitching on my tunic. A few buttons have falen off mine.

I have not seen any stamps similar to the ones you have posted. Very unusual for R.E. items. As was stated by others, all my original items have size stamps, but not all have depot stamps.

I am still in the possible, but not probable camp on this tunic. Too many exceptions in one item.

                    Pista!

                      Jeff,

thanks for your kind words! I have been through this thread a dozen times and the other tunics posted look similiar but not like this one... which tends to not make me feel warm and fuzzy. I am looking for a nice undisputable original example.. If anyone has one and wants to hook a fellow collector up please let me know! Matt

Heres a wartime photo of two button sleeve closures on a wartime 1942 Navy Officer but has removable shoulder boards and not fixed.
